Default noisy headlighs

1994 Vette.

When the headlight assembly opens or closes I hear a noise coming out of the assembly. My first response was that something needed to be lubricated.

I just heard it tonight when I got home and have not had time to lift the hood and study the problem.

So I thought I would ask some questions first......

Is this a common noise with these lights and are there joints or pivots in this assembly that should be lubricated every so often?

Or is this a forewarning that something will need to be replaced soon?

Thanks.

If the motor runs on after the lights are fully up or down then the bushings are wearing, or worn, out. See the sticky at the top of this section.

The noise occurs while the assembly is moving. No noise after completely up or closed.

Good advice though......thanks

A couple months after replacing the gears in my 92 headlights, the 'motor mounts' that hold the motors to the assembly's frame had loosened up, and it clunked a little. Maybe open the hood and observe them as they cycle. You'll need a helper to make it easy. Have them bring beer.

May have fixed it last night. I drove home in the rain with my headlights up and on. I drove about 30 minutes in the rain and at times it was coming down rather hard. When I got home and in the garage I turned the lights off and as they closed there was no more noise. So maybe there was some dirt or small particles caught in the linkages that needed to be flushed out.

This morning I opened the hood and exercised the mechanism several times then I sprayed some lithium grease on all the moving parts.

So, I will see how it does over time.
