I know the theory behind pump replaceent but do you folks have any good tips or tricks to make things easier? Any pitfalls to look out for in getting the pump off the tube or any special care to be taken?
It is pretty straight forward just make sure that the gasket around the neck base is reusable (good condition) or get a new one otherwise you will notice a strong fuel odor in your garage and when you first get in the car, being an old car treat the wires with care they will be britle also check the ground wire from the harnes it'll probably be rusted you may clean it and soldered again while you are at it.
ps don't forget to check the pump before you install it, run it from the battery direct make sure it runs, good luck

Is the ground wire one of the 3 that come in from the weatherpack connector or is there a separate ground?
I think the hardest part is getting the 3 hoses off of the metal lines. They can be a bitch if they're stuck, I usually end up shimming a small flat screwdriver around the lip of them to try and get em' started loose.
Make sure the o-rings on all of the bolts are in good shape and replace them with fuel safe replacements if not. Make sure you don't get the float stuck in the splash tray when you put the assembly back in.
It's honestly a simple job, way less than an hour unless you find something else in need of replacing.
