I have an 89 which over the past 5 years has had a very intermittent no start just crank. It would fire up randomly 1hr or a day later.
Recently it began running rough after driving for a while....rough idle, slight surges. I have replaced the distributor, MAF burn off relays, and TPS. Now if it does start after sitting it will run fine for a few minutes and have a rough idle and will not start again unless I spray fluid into the throttle body. If I let it sit for a while it might start without spraying fluid. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions......ECM, Idle air control?
So you are saying it will start with a spray. That tells me the ignition is fine. So it must be fuel. Filter replacement is first. Pressure test fuel rail is second. That test will point you to pump/regulator/injector tests.
Please don't just throw new parts at it, that will cost you a fortune.

If the above doesn't work, next check your egr valve, if its stuck open it will cause hard starts, ruff idle and surging, but check the above first...WW
Thank you for the help. I replaced 3 injectors for now and she purrs like a kitten again. As far as John, I have read quite a bit on this forum and can tell he is a very good source and is well loved by many on this forum. I am sure I will buy a set from him and replace them all in the future. I wanted to be able to drive it this weekend so I just replaced the bad ones. Thanks again!
