speedometer on 86 z51

I am having the craziest time trying to figure out an intermittent speedo problem. The problem is not with the dash cluster, I've changed that out from my 89. Seems to be some sort of bad connection under the passenger side dash. After looking under there and pulling the ECM looking for bad solder in it, I found what is called an accelerometer? That is getting an intermittent connection. It seems to be just taped into who knows what by someone just twisting wire together.

So my question is this, why would an 86 have an accelerometer installed? And since this is not stock where would the pink/white wire go that seems to be feeding power to it?

I am not familiar with the 1986 but a lateral accelerometer is factory installed on some years.

Yes, I think it is on 90 somethings. Its not on my 89, thats why it caught my attention.
