hood latch
Has anyone had a problem of the hood not opening? I pull on the handle and it won't pull very far or disengage the hood latches. Any ideas on how to fix it? The cable feels like it is still connected and as if the hood latches are stuck closed....Thanks...

If you think they are both still connected, get a helper to push down on the RHS of the hood over the latch while you do the same on the LHS, and pull on the handle. Your latches might not have been lubed lately and are binding. By pushing down on the hood, you take the pressure off the latchs and it should open. IF only one side opens, then the cable to the other side might be broken :( There is a tool available to pop the latch, otherwise I think you will have to remove the inner fender well. :cry

If you don't have the helper try parking on different inclines, it will flex the hood enough to make a difference.
If this fails, get the hood tool from MAD, it realy works.

I had this problem except that mine that it only stuck on the driver's side. We used the hood tool (NOT easy to use! See if you can find someone else with a C4 to practice on) In our case it was the cable had stretched out. We put a new cable on it and closed the hood without completely installing the cable to test it. This time the passenger's side stuck and my husband COULD NOT get it open with the tool. We took the wheel well apart and opened it right up.

One of the latches was rusted. The bracket that holds the mechanism had some standing water in it ?????? and this caused the latch to rust. I re-lubed it. I just got the car, other than that, great.
