My service engine light went on right after I changed the Thermostat, shows code 32. I checked another car because I broke the thin nylon vacuum lines and when I replaced them I might have reversed them , corrected that, light comes on when driving steady at about 65-70.
When I place a vacuum pump on the EGR it doesn't hold vacuum. Is it supposed to? From what I've read on a search it seems to indicate that the vacuum holds at some time and not at others.
Does anybody know what is correct? It seems to me that if you put vacuum to the EGR it should hold until released. My car is a late '86 Aluminum Head.

Since you said this happened after the T- stat change, I would imagine the EGR solenoid on there may not be plugged in right,or a vacuum tube cracked or broke.
Check all that carefully and replace any lines that need to be changed.
Also, on the back of the intake manifold on the drivers side is a wire that comes off the egr exhaust feed tube..its a white ceramic switch with a black wire...check to see if that ceramic part or wire itself is coming loose or cracked.
Thats also a very common egr code thrower when the switch goes bad or fails from age.
I had the problem that Bill mentioned... It was the EGR temperature switch. The check engine light only came on at a cold start. If you shut it off, and back on after it was warm, it was fine. It think it only cost $9.95 from Ecklers to fix the problem. Hope this helps!
Thanks for help! I still cannot believe the power of this site when it comes to problem solving.
I changed all the lines and I'm gonna check. I still wonder how you do a check on just the EGR? What kind of vacuum should it take? I put a pump on it, seems to hold for a few seconds, then drops.
