Default L98 oil pressure

Ok I have tried every combination to search oil presure with no luck at all. I tried the following
oil pressure
oil+pressure
oil + pressure
'oil pressure'
"oil pressure"

I got loads of results but none that made sense at all.

What is normal oil pressure for a stock L98 ?
coolant = 80 degrees
idle=750 rpm

idle oil pressure
2k rpm oil pressure

coolant =200
idle = 750

idle oil pressure
2k rpm oil pressure

I changed oil pressure sender from an obviously bad stock one read crazy high and bounced all over the place. Put in a sender I bought from NAPA. Now reads about 25 cold idle 50 cold 2k 10-15 hot idle 35 to 40 hot 2k rpm and does not get much over 40 hot if I give a kick in the a$$..

Any and all responses are welcome and thanks in advance for all help. I need to put about 1k miles on this in a few weeks and don't want to blow it up 350 miles from home.. Taking GF to Watkins Glen for the SVR race so she has some idea of what I do for a living.

put 20-50 in for the summer months and not the winter.

@ normal temps 190-210 in the middle of summer using 5-30 it can get down to 10-15pss at idle. You might also have old oil in her, change it? if it's still at 10-15psi in with 20 50 say good buy to the motor pumps don't noramlly go bad more likly the bearings..

Seems pretty normal with the new sensor in place. Rule of thumb is you only need 10 psi of oil pressure per 1,000 RPMs. Example: 4,000 RPM should = ~40 psi or greater. Your oil pressure reading may vary depending on the type/weight of oil you use, bearing wear & and the engine temp (overall).

Thanks for the reply the motor is what I am stressing over.. I would take a try at new bearings in chassis but suspect back then GM used under and oversized shells to fix the line bore and cranks that were +- out of spec so the odds of getting right about a million to one in my book..

The car is going to the dealer for a bunch of maintainence this week and 20-50 is on the list. I would do it myself but by the time i pay to get a permit to the transfer station and fees to drop off oil etc it is not worth the hassle.

Your pressures are fine.I wouldn't put 20w-50w in until I had to, I have the same pressures as you with 10w-30w and never had any problems. If you put in 10w-30w and get lower pressure then you have now then switch to higher weight oil, but the higher weight oil puts a lot more strain on the oil pump, especially when cold. Also the Factory Service Manual says 5w-30 or 10w-30w only....Your car, Your call....WW

Well if that is normal then it is.. so i assume nothing to stress over then unless someone chimes in with something different. I am real good about never beating on a cold engine and always letting it run for around a minute or two before driving away. We have a lot of stop and go traffic for such a small town but a tourist trap so it can take 20 minutes at times to drive a mile.. Might as well live in LA..LOLPlus on days like today 90 plus degrees and humidity of 90 or better so little chance of running too cool and oil being too thick. I will swap it out when it gets down to 65 degrees in the fall. I have no problem at all with buying oil and filters way cheaper than engines.

Spec is 45-60 anytime your foot is on the gas, but the minimum rule is 10psi for every 1K RPM the engine is turning.

Usually my engine will run 55-60 at cold idle or at 70+ mph highway cruising speeds, or at WOT. Once the engine is hot it should idle in the 20-30 range, maybe lower if its really hot.

86 stock shortblock with 145K.............55psi cold........48-50 psi hot.
cold temp is 90 hot temp is 108
I run mobil 1 5w30 because of the no zinc and phosphorus in dino oil plus with the elevated temps in Phoenix, there is just more heat protection with the Mobil 1.
I got the car 12 years ago with 65,000 on it, and luckily, it was in good shape.
The oil pressure hasn't really changed in all that time.
I also prefill the oil filter before screwing on the new one to eliminate the few seconds it takes to fill the oil filter and the oil gallery to prevent the crank running without pressure for those few precious seconds.
Don't know if it helps, but mentally, I'm doing all I can.
I usually change oil whenever it gets dirty, but I change filter twice per oil change, and change the oil at 7500 miles, and add oil at filter change.
I read that the greatest wear takes place right after oil change. so I change the filters more often.
besides, it's Mobil 1, it is super slippery.

A good rule of thumb I learned early on was:

Cold: oil psi will range from ~40-90 psi.
Hot: car should gain ~10 oil psi per thousand RPM with an idle oil psi of ~20-30 psi.

This means that fully warmed, the car should have ~20-30 psi oil psi, and at 4000 RPM, it should be ~55-65 psi.

Best of luck with your vette.
