Hey All,
Thanks again for all the great anwsers in past posts. How do I find out if my ecm on my 88 is working properly. there is no check engine light on, I believe the light for it was taken out or just blown? dunno much but hopefully will find out! thanks to you guys but you know 200% that there's multiple problems. So I can assume a few things I had once asked the repair guy at a vette place is there only one computer. He told me that there are a few and they are all inter-linked to the ecm. If the computer is faulty is there such thing as a password to tell me in english Hey Buddy I'm 23 years Old Go get me a new brain so I stop killing your financial resources
It would be nice to actually have a computer tell me the diagnosis than a mechanic who for I know is looking to make extra. I've only had bad experiences thats why I'm in school for auto mechanics! Any advice besides I'm screwed if i dont laugh I'll cry.
Thanks again.
If I start there I hope I can get down to the roots? or maybe not!
First would be to see what is up with the light when you first turn key to on position the battery, fasten seat belt, and SES light should come on in your control information center. If the light is missing or burned out replece it and pull your codes untill you do that your nowhere. The ECM is the only divice that reads sensor input and adjusts operating conditions based on that information If it finds a fault in one of the active systems it turns on the SES light, then you would read the code through jumpering the ALDL to find the system that is at fault. So you see you need the light working to find the problem area or you need to find someone with a scan tool to read it using software. In the FSM there is a ECM diagnostic to see if it's working properly but it starts with the light.
