A. I. R. Air Injection. Injects air into the exhaust to reduce unburned hydrocarbons. It can be removed with no outward adverse effects. You will not realize any significant HP gain. What you will gain is a much cleaner engine compartment. You may, depending on your local Smog *****, have a problem passing a smog test.

I got mine from TPIS several years ago. I am sure all the major Corvette parts suppliers have them. Plan on $160.00 for very few pieces of metal.

All I would add to the delete option is to clean out all the excess piping. I had my manifolds off at the time, cut all the injection tubes had them welded shut then cleaned out the exhaust restrictions. You will not be happy to see how much of the piping hangs into and blocks the exhaust.

Anyone wanna get rid of their air pump for an L98? I cleaned the engine bay and got mine all wet. So, it rusted on the inside.

Goodmorning...

Im trying to find a (how to) on using the smog pump as a pully. I have heard guys talking about removing the guts of the air pump. Can somebody point me in the right direction on how to do this.

Thanks.

I did mine when a vane inside it cracked and was rubbing inside the housing... dam awful screech... Its not hard but its not easy either. You have to take the back off the pump when you have it on the workbench, hammer, chisel, screwdriver and cuss those fiber vanes and you chip them out the slots and housing, then put it back together. This will allow you to use the pump as an idler pulley but not have the internals working. Took me about 2 hours total, with most of the time spent getting the vanes out....
