Default Cooling Question

1996 convert.. 5.3L . ? if fans should be coming on earlier???
Rad area is free from leaves. Had the cooling system flushed and new thermostats replaced 2 years ago.
Senario....(car in park)
A/C off.
Neither fan came on until 230F (digital readings) and both off again when it reaches 220F. Then low speed.
It cycles between these 2 temperatures.
I turned the engine off at 230F and both fans turned off.
??? Should not one of the fans stay ON????
Restarted the car and turned the A/C on. Both fans went into HI speed which started to cool the temperature quickly down to approx. 200F.

Question : Should not one of the fans be on all the time except when the car is traveling more than 30MPH????
Is this possibly a relay problem or something else??

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Bob

I have a 96 and that is exactly how mine works. The car runs cooler when running the AC. My main fan will not come on until ~228. The aux fan comes on at ~238. My temps here where I live are over 100 degrees. With the AC running, the temp never goes over 205. When moving, it stays between 195 and 205. I have a 190 stat.

If you search the forum, you will see lots of threads on "car running hot" or similar threads on the subject.

Sounds like your fans are working as they should be.

This is correct operation for the 95 & 96. Both fans run together at hi or lo speed.

Don’t get confused with the fan operation with the 92 – 94 cars. The fans operate differently and independently.

Thanks for replying. I guess I'll always keep my A/C on.

If your system is working the way it's designed, I don't see any point in driving with the A/C "on".

All your gonna do is wear out a lot of equipment before it's time.

pcolt94 explained the 95 system as it operates.

Just my opinion, but you'll have to get used to the operating system of the c-4.

If you plan on keeping it? Get yourself an FSM.

Again, it's just my opinion

I don't run my AC if the temp is below 85. When its on, it does turn on both fans and keeps the car right where it should be.

is the 5.3 correct? Is that an LS based engine? Or was that a typo. If you are running an LS engine in place of the origional LT1 5.7 then it is too hot.
