Default Opti expected life

I see a lot of Optispark problems
What would be a good life span of an opti if it was kept dry.(no water pump leaks)?
My opti has some oil on and around it from an oil leak, not sure where it's comming from yet.Would this affect it like coolant?
I am new and don't want to be stranded.just getting info.
1995 72,000 miles and runs good.Looks to have original wires, plugs ect.

Thanks

Did a cap & rotor on mine @ 110k

It's got 150k on it now.

I did by an MSD for the new engine.

I just had mine replaced as I also had an oil leak, and a water-pump that had a leak, and just did it as a precautionary measure.

Mine has just passed 150,000 on the clock.

Seems like the heavily modded cars have more problems with the opti. The Delteq ignition helped on my 396. Went through a new opti every two years on my 396 before the Delteq.
Also put cement on the rotor screws which came loose with all the vibration.

In the September, 2009 edition of Corvette Enthusiast, page 40, Chris Petris wrote an excellent article on the Opti. Get a copy if you're interested on how they work, how to replace them, which years are better, etc.

85 500 hourse
Thanks for the info on that artical
I'm glad I have the 95 now maybe my opti will last a long time
I have a oil leak up front somewhere I gota find soon.
I will have to pull everything off to find it.
I was told it was the intake but I don't think so
I think its around the opti area maybe a seal or timing chain cover.
It's so hard to see too much stuff in the way

If you can't get the back issue, give me your e-mail address in a PM and I'll send you a pdf file of the article.

Default opti

had a mechanic talk me into replacing my perfectly good gm opti on my now sold 95 formula t/a .... hard job , lot easier in a corvette, I got mine from jegs... an accel high performance opti.. I heard they supposed to last 100k, or read it somewhere, I also had an oil leak, took Fbody 5 tries to fix the oil leak, finally determined it was a cracked timing cover.. which they should have caught on the first try. Then they put the wrong coolant in my car, green instead of dexcool, even though I put in huge bold type on a list of to do's to only use dexcool.

horrible experience. Sold that car and got an 80 and 87 vette(s) that I can work on myself.

95 is a good year cause it is vented and any moisture is sucked out into the intake. 94 and earlier are not vented.

good luck with it...
