My car mostly sees city driving. But today I got on the highway. I was cruising 75 mph in 6th gear. I accelerated in 6th and the car would hesitate and not speed up. Also the air conditioning would stop coming out of the dash vents and would come out of the lower leg vents every time it would hesitate. When I would let of the gas the air would come back out of the dash instantly. I shifted into 5th and stepped on it and it accelerated fine. When got off the highway and back in the city I had it in fourth and at a low rpm (1650) accelerated and it would do the same thing. Since I didnt have all that wind and tire noise from the highway I listened to see if I could hear something and I did. When the car would hesitate I coud hear a ticking noise from the middle dash or engine compartment. It didnt sound like a mechanical sound and it was very inconsistent when it would do it. 1st, 2nd and third gear seemed fine and I floored the car and it ran good all the way through. It seems it does it in higher gears and at a lower rpm..

sounds like in the area of the air director, never been there myself, but the mechanism that directs air to either upper or lower vents is, I believe, vacuum operated. A hose might be loose in that area. Maybe someone with a shop manual for your year can point you in the right direction
