While cleaning the engine compartment I noticed an excessive amount of grease around the driver's side tie rod boot (under the steering pump). The entire rack is out of my car (easy to remove when since the engine is out). I didn't have time to look at it too much late last night.
However, my questions are: Remanufactured racks, $259 MAD, are they worth it? I really don't remember if my steering is going out. But, while I can easily get to it is it worth replacing now? Is there a systemic problem with C4's steering going out? (I have 93K miles)
If its the original rack, id replace it.ALL C4's will need a rack...and i mean all of them.As with age and mileage they all wear out...the earlier models design were a little more prone to failure then the newer ones.
MAD is a bit expensive...i paid 139 for mine from autozone..Other local parts stores can probabaly get you a rebuilt rack for under 200.
With your mileage and ease of replacing it, id do it now.
:)
