Will ramps get you the elevation you need? I've always just stuck with a jack and jackstands, that way I can put it as high as I want. This won't apply for ramps, but here's what I do to jack it up:

Jack one of the front jacking points until I can fit a jackstand under the spring mount for that side (the solid metal piece), then do the same for the other front side. Then jack the rear not on the jacking point, but on the 'triangle' of frame bead just behind it, so I can put the jackstand on the jacking point. Then repeat. I do that all for the lowest jackstand elevation, then go around again if I want to go higher, just because I don't like the car being precariously perched at some weird angle.

Use ramps on the front wheels and a floor jack and jack stands for the rears.

My big jack is too tall to fit under the front. I either drive the car onto boards or use my two little jacks to get the front high enough for the big jack to reach the large steel crossmember under the front. Then I jack it high enough to slide the ramps in backward. I have and will use 2"x12" lumber under the ramps to give me an extra 1.5" in height. I have used two sets of 2"x12"s to get an extra 3" lift. I do the same for the rear or use jack stands. I never have had a problem with jack stands but I prefer the weight to be on the wheels if I can have it setup that way and still get to what I need. It isn't logical and I can't defend the position but they scare me a little even though each jackstand I have can support the full weight of the car.

My '96 generally gets jacket up a side at a time with the jack positioned just about under the mirrors. Lift a side, put jack stands in, lift other side, put in stands.

That's the way I do it also. The rear will raise enough from the front jack point to get both stands under the car. Then move to the other side.
