It seems the light under the hood of my C4 is staying on. Drained the battery. It was not working at all and I cleaned the connections then it seemed ok, went off when you closed the hood. Now it seems to just stay on, I am guessing the stitched is shot. Anyone know where the switch is under the hood for the hood lights?
On my '85, these lights have been unplugged ever since I've owned it. With the hood open for prolonged periods of time and really having no need for them to be on, they got unplugged at the connectors in front of the wheel wells, near the horns on both sides. I did plug them in to see that they worked and then unplugged them. I would assume that they are activated by a little mercury switch right in the light, no?
I have only own the car about 2 months. Yes mine where disconnected down in the front wheel wells too. I checked & cleaned them, check the bulbs & wires, all was good & did work after I connected them. Now that you mention it, yes I think there is a little mercury activated switch rignt beside the bulb in the light housing. I also found out there was a GM service bulliten on this. I beleive Ecklers has the switch. Why did you unplug yours?
I unplugged mine because those bulbs get hotter then the engine does! I pulled one of the bulbs at a car show because I couldn't get my fat hand to the light connector and it burned a hole through the shop rag I was using. They just run down the battery and don't give off enough light to be of much use.
I keep mine un-plugged so I can keep my hood open for any length of time with out worrying about pulling the battery down. I always have a shop light if I need one anyway. Besides, I can always plug them in any time I want.
The fuse can easily be pulled. It's located in the way-front-driver's side bay, to the left of the horn. There are three black connectors. THe center one has a red and an orange wire on one end and nothing on the other. Open it and you'll find the fuse.
I tapped into my wiring harness and added a pair of rocker switches to the inside of the bumper cover - just ahead of my left front tire. Now I can turn them on/off at will without having to fiddle with the wiring harness - and the best part is, you can't hardly see the switches unless you know they're there!
