Where can I find it cheapest? I tried to use the search feature, and it came back with no hits, which amazes me. There's no way this baseplate's never been discussed before.
Anyway, I looked through all of the Corvetteforum supporting vendors and couldn't find it listed anywhere.
Where are you guys buying it from? Summit and Jegs have it for $360. carpartsonsale.com has prices all over the roadmap, so I don't trust it.
Re: cheapest place for Edelbrock TPI baseplate? (Jim85IROC)
I bought mine from Summit. WARNING: It still ain't much better than the stock piece. Only now, it starts choking at around 4800 RPM as opposed to 4500 RPM. Pretty sure there are another 1000 usable RPM there for me. I am really disapointed with it and am now looking for a Superram. I will probably try to sell it once I find a good deal on the SR. BTW, I did pay Summit's price.
Re: cheapest place for Edelbrock TPI baseplate? (89 Paul in cal)
Not much better than stock? Everybody I've talked to said the stock baseplate is the most restrictive part of the whole intake setup.
The Edelbrock is the exact same casting as the fabled TPIS intake, and AFAIK, the same as the Accel Superram baseplate too.
If you don't upgrade the runners & plenum, then just the baseplate will only give minimal results, but between the baseplate, SLP runners, hogged out plenum and port matching, I should be in pretty good shape I would hope.
Re: cheapest place for Edelbrock TPI baseplate? (Jim85IROC)
The Edelbrock base is NOT the same as the Accel :nono: The Accel superam base has larger runners and alot more meat in it for porting :yesnod: best place to get the Accel is rich@cruzinperformance.com

Agreed.

Don't think so. I've had both castings in my hot little hands. Big difference!

I should've mentioned I did these upper mods also. It still chokes at 4800. But, realistically speaking, I'm sure you'll be in pretty good shape. All I was ranting about, was that I spent some money on my motor and should be able to enjoy full use of it.
BTW, you will have to slightly grind the Ed on it's #2 crossover so our stock waterneck can bolt in. I chose not to grind the waterneck since it is already thin in that area.
Re: cheapest place for Edelbrock TPI baseplate? (89 Paul in cal)
Hmm. This is getting more complicated than I hoped, as usual. In any event, thanks for the good info, and anybody else that wants to add can feel free to do so.
Re: cheapest place for Edelbrock TPI baseplate? (WINNER)
I agree with WINNER.The Acell is the ticket.1.770 runner diameter.
Edelbrock is smaller and the Scoggin/Dickey is stock 1.470
Edelbock is TPIS unported but one can only port in so far.
The Acell will out run a TPIS Bigmouth
Re: cheapest place for Edelbrock TPI baseplate? (mountainmotor)
Sweet. :D
For that price, I'm all over it. I just did some digging on the 'net and so far the best I've come up with is $440 at gofastparts.com and $408 at carshopinc.com, neither place I've ever heard of before.
But $389 is hardly more than the edelbrock base. Me likes. :yesnod:
Re: cheapest place for Edelbrock TPI baseplate? (Jim85IROC)
Way to go Jim! Good choice. With apologies to Edelbrock, you will be much better off with the Accel. I'll look for your reviews when ya get it installed

it'll probably be a while. The car isn't moving until the roads are clean, then I'm going to do intake/runners at the same time I do the 165 ECM and harness swap.
