I had the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator blow off this afternoon, shooting gas all over the place. I found one of the vacuum lines going to the EGR solenoid off as well. Turning the key ON and priming the injectors blows the vacuum line right off. Anything else I should look at before grabbing a regulator? I think I have a stored lean code, but nothing current on the DIC. Late '86, L98.
Yup, nightmare indeed! Luckily I was 3 blocks from home when the car bogged down and the engine wasn't hot yet. Or I could be posting a much different thread!
Ouch! Just make sure you have the correct safety torx bit. I think it is a 10 safety bit. Once you get them off just junk them and get some allen bolts to replace them with at a hobby shop.
I agree with the others, time for a new diaphragm. Wouldn't be a bad idea to put an adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator if you already don't have one. Glad that it didn't turn out worse!
Really, that's a security bit screw? I was hoping to cheat and not remove the plenum.
OK, I'll admit stupidity as for the Corvette L98s since I have not had to do anything to the plenum or FPR but on the fbody L98 FPRs the bit is a safety torx. It is a star bit with a dot/metal point in the middle. Others will verify if the vettes are the same. They turn to dust after about 20 years. Chances are you strip them on the removal unless it has been done before. Just make sure you use the actual size bit and don't cheat one off and good luck.
