I had to remove the adapter to get to the rear pan bolts when removing my oil pan. Looks like a larger filter could be used. Does running a smaller filter help with oil pressure or somthing?
They did that with my truck also, I got a larger one by going to advanced auto and the guy had a book and told me the number of a larger one that would fit my truck.
I installe a remote filter adapter, used Earl's fittings and hoses and mounted my filter in the cavity in front of the front left wheel. I used a large oil filter, and also get the filter away from the hot exhaust pipe that it was located next to. More oil and cooler oil, and it is easier to change as well!

They did that to clear the catalytic converter. If you have or run full length headers, you can switch to a conventional sized filter if you so desire.

I tried to see if there was a way for me to do this on my vette today. I can't unless there is some kind of adapter to use. There is no place to install the threaded couplin the filter screws into. It's smooth in the center hole, no threads at all.
