Default oil filter????

what kind of oil filter would anybody recommend with for a 93 lt1 running royal purple oil?

I guess I would try to find a purple filter so your lubrication ensemble will match.

is having a filter at all even necessary?

I have a fram now, going to mobil 1 synthetic oil next change ( new engine) and using their filter.

i heard bad things about fram, but who cares...

Not many,,, just the ones whose engines were destroyed by their crap products. Oh, and myself since I spent over $600. on a not needed fuel pump replacement in my truck after their brand new fuel filter came apart inside and stopped fuel flow to the engine.

AC Delco gets someone else to make their filters for them. Though, I have used them with no problems. I believe they used to have some gold filters, but I believe those aren't being made anymore. Though, the AC Delco filters are just your regular filter. Whereas I think the K&N, Mobile 1, ect. filters have a special filter media inside that isn't paper like AC Delco and about ever other filter out there.
