Re: Leaking red (transmission?) fluid from LT4 :( (Andy1983)
Here's how to determine if your red leak is coolant...taste it on the tip off your tounge (then rinse your mouth)! Anti freeze tastes sweet. Likely you have a leak in the water pump ... or the intake manifold.
If the leak isn't identifyable as being a hose or the water pump, I'd recommend a bottle of stop leak. Chasing a small water jacket leak (like the intake) can be a pricey nightmare. If you take it to the Chevy dealer, he'll replace the gasket and THEN add anti leak anyway! I put Alumaleak in my 350 Tahoe after finding the same type of small leak six months ago. Viola! No more leak and no $900 Chevy bill. I'd do the same to my CE. Good luck. Cire96
I was thinking this as well, seen a 95 F-body with red power steering fluid.
pull the cap off the water fill and see if your water is red...
then check your power steering fluid to see if it would be red for some odd reason... even though mine is oil color...
if you have trouble seeing the color, use a white napkin.
I drew an outline of my car on the floor in chalk, and drew rough shapes of various underside parts and labelled them... makes it easier to find the leak..
Andy1983,
If your not sure if its oil or A-freeze take a small piece of clean white paper and soak it up with the mystery fluid. The paper will turn the true color of the fluid. Next hold the paper under the water faucet and gently rub it. A-freeze with wash away and the paper will come apart. Oil will stay in the paper and hold it together.
