Camera
Has anyone had any experience with or know of camera systems for their car? I am currently using a windshield mount for my iPhone that I modified so that the camera lens can see the road ahead. However, to reduce vibrations I had to have the mount suction cupped to windshield and resting on the actual dash pad.
This isn't the best vantage point of course.
What I'd like is a multi camera system that I could download from whenever something cool happens (you'll need that rearview for the mustang making the sad face) or when something bad happens (dumb driver who sideswipes you).
I recently happened to have my camera running for test purposes when a car merged into my lane. It was downtown where there was no room to maneuver and I came away with a nasty scratch. The post accident stories varied quite a bit, and if it hadn't been for my camera I would have been paying my own repair bill (Kentucky is a no fault state).
So, I've definitely been sold on the value of having a camera running all the time (not unlike a police cruiser). However, I definitely would want a better quality image than they have.
Thanks.

I've got a Hero Pro (wide angle) I bought from "new" from a member here on the CF. I've only used it a few times but the thing is impressive. Records ~1 hour of straight video with a 2G SD card in it. Push one button and you can record over your last video and start again. People on the roads here in FL are flippin' nuts the way they drive & I've seen the need for full time onboard video. I'll post a short video I took with it in a day or so you can compare.
Here's a video I took while goofing around with the new camera....I am still having trouble getting the audio on the correct pick-up setting and the camera ....still got to mess with the thing more but you get the idea. Oh yeah - I have most of the interior removed from the car so disregard that

The datalogger and video look pretty sweet on this...
It uses one regular videocam and one bullet cam. In this video, I mounted the regular cam to the rear window with suction cup mount, and the bullet cam was attached to the dash with piece of metal and tape. The sound is from the regular camera and the editing is done with power director

This guy has a system from Eyemax (http://www.eyemaxdvr.com/)
However, there isn't a lot of detail on their site about the unit, and I'd prefer a system that didn't use the old school compact flash memory for storage.

If done right its very steady. Works pretty good.
