95, LT1, A4 intermittent starting problem
Some days it starts up and runs fine, idles and accelertes smoothly. Then for no apparent reason it will crank over just fine, but will not start. Did a scan and only got an H72 (ABS history code). The owner checked and he is getting spark, says he is also getting a gas smell, but it will not fire up today. It does this, some days it starts, somedays it doesn't.
HELP, all sane (and some insane or inane) suggestions appreciated.

Could be an injector sticking open intermittently, try holding the pedal to the floor to see if it will start, doing so shuts off the injectors (clear flood mode). Clear flood mode cannot shut off an injector that is stuck open due to mechanical failure but stopping the rest of them may allow the engine to start if one is leaking. Release the pedal immediately if it starts to avoid over revving of course
It would help to install a fuel gauge on the rail so you can monitor the pressure when the problem occurs.
