My 93's traction control button doesnt work. Im guessing to turn it off you have to hold it for a few seconds and a light will show up on the dash. Any troubleshooting ideas where i can get started.
Shouldn't have to hold the button down for any length of time.
The button is just an on/off switch. By the way, the system is always ON by default.
Even if you shut it off, it will be on the next time you start the car.
Are you sure the traction control won't turn off? Maybe the light is just burnt out.
If I start the car and never touch the traction button it is very easy to power brake. If i press the button once it doesnt make any difference except now both stop signs on my street have some rubber on the ground
Okay, seriously, take the car out on the grass and try to spin the wheels. If the TC is working you'll know it.
So after breaking my wheels loose in a field and then proceeding to doughnuts, drifting, and getting my car a bit muddy...it is safe to say i have no traction control. Its always had a check abs light on but i didnt know if that was linked to the traction system. Is it? I really need a repair manual.

Yes the ABS and traction control (ASR) share components, repair the ABS problem and it will likely fix the ASR issue. You do need the correct Factory Service Manual for proper troubleshooting, but the link below will let you pull Diagnostic Trouble Codes and that will give you a starting point. Scroll down to Sequenced Code Recovery 1990-1993, good luck.
I got 1.C12 4.H26 9.Err 1.0
I believe C12 means no current codes, H26 is some emissions thing, Im guessing 9. Err means my abs computer is bad????? and 1.0 means end of codes. Am i correct?
I'm a little out of my element here because I don't have a obd1 car. From what I can gather H26 is something about a "quad driver" problem which sounds like it is in the engine computer. I also see some reference to it and the throttle position sensor.
As far as you "err", have you verified that the abs computer is getting power? Check your fuses.
General troubleshooting procedure is to go after the lowest numbered code first. Maybe you ought to look into that H26?

I notice the link I sent has an error since it indicates module #7 is the ABS, while the FSM says it is module 9. Based on your results there seems to be no codes in the CCM and a code 26 (quad driver module circuit #1) in the ECM. The Err listed for module 9 does not necessarily mean the ABS controller is bad, it could be as simple as a blown fuse.
After reviewing your symptoms, and my FSM, you should run the ABS/ASR Functional Check on page 5E2-19 The results of that check will send you the appropriate diagnostic flow chart.
My suggestion is to acquire your own copy of the service manual, while the books may seem expensive, compared to the "guess a part" theory of auto repair they are a bargain. Two sources linked below.

Thanks a lot for the info, now i have 2 more questions until i get my manual. Where is the location of the abs controller and where would the fuse be for it? 2. What is a quad driver module circuit? I have ordered a manual but am impatient...after i get it I promise no more simple questions.
