Just my experience.
FYI.. Vetteman clarified my post, but as is the norm with this place (or most any board), things degenerate into an e-***** measuring contest.

I spent my career in the ignition design business, and I didn't recognize anything in his post that involved any physics or mechanics that would clarify this issue, or back up any product claims.

Please keep your ***** issues to yourself, and try to limit the conversation to car topics.

would this be OEM ignition design? or High Performance aftermarket?

I would also keep your personal attacks to yourself and leave the race cars, and the parts that make them fast to those of us with experience.

Well... for engine heat, the answer would be "no". For the "Bubba factor", the answer would be "yes"..

The vibration mounts are missing, and I cannot see how it's wired, so it's a tossup..

YMMV

yes, you want to run the coil as close to the distributor as you can. the coil wire should be 18" or shorter.

It would be OEM. And, I can say with certainty, the aftermarket does not put as much engineering and durability testing into their products as the OEM companies do. Also, please note that hi performance and aftermarket ignition are not synonymous.
I did not personally attack anyone. I asked for facts to back up the claims. Facts are impersonal.
I've worked as a builder/crewman on an SCCA Trans Am team, and on my personal cars, I do the engine builds, trans and differential builds, the chassis assembly/welding, painting and interior.
My personal track day cars are a turbocharged 355 Corvette (built by me, see avatar) and a '69 427 with a C4 suspension (All done by me).
I have the greasy fingernails, busted knuckles, and engineering degree to back up my claims.

Should not be an issue, the car will never see another 10,000 mi in it's life or I mean my life.

yea you're right. so judging by the 9 year old coil in my race car (which was bought at the same time as the 7AL-3) i should get at least another 9 years out of the 7AL-3, I'm stoked.

well i personally have used a few msd coils in my 1991 camaro installed in its proper mounts using hte factory harness and i had two fail, lasting a month or so each. bought a stock replacement and it lasted until i stripped that car out then i put it in my lt1 trans am for the 3 years i had it. the round old school ones are better. i am just not impressed with their products.

Why are these even necessary on modern day f.i. cars? The z06 has no msd box. the zr1 does not. why do we even waste our money on 300 hp cars?

I have one but I believe it is all a gimmick. Unfortunately I opted for a stock coil location on the LT1 on the front side of a cylinder head and that made for a 15 or so inch long coil wire to the dizzy at the back. I mounted the msd box at the bottom of the Headlight area (drivers side). I didnt wire it in but I feel like ripping it out.

FWIW MSD recommends less than 36" for a coil wire. But obviously the shorter the better...

Digi 7 box...

Pro Power HVC coil...
