How did others do this? Here's some pictures from my project.
I removed the main lights from my track car project, to save weight. I am using HID fog lights for limited street driving. The HID fog lights work awesome!

The lids are almost done. I left in the early morning for a track event and the HID fog lights were great.
The lids are glued down, I think epoxy or something like JB weld would have been better. I need to fix the holes with some contact cement yet so the gaps are all smooth and then paint.
Looks good! Is your car a street car? Just curious if the HIDs in the fog lamps would work well for a car that's 1/2 street, 1/2 track. I suppose the legality would depend on the state.
I think they are fine, I'd like to shim the fog light up a little though. It makes a lot of light close to the nose. I still use mine for some street driving, mostly driving to and from tracks.
Most track cars have the lid covered with a plate and put on with rivets. I thought this was cleaner but it took a lot longer.
I did the same thing with my 94. I used aluminum angle with the stock fiberglass lids. A friend of mine suggested using angle and slotted the holes so we could do fine adjustments to get the lids lined up with the hood. I reused the stock lids so I wouldn't have to paint them. (Paint and body I'm not so good at!) You can't even tell the motors and buckets aren't there.
Saved a heck of a lot of weight off the front of the car.
I was wondering what you were going to do. I've seen a few with cooling ducts there too.
I have cooling ducts going from the dam to the general area of the rotor by way of the LCA because I couldnt get close enough without the wheel rubbing. I am going to add ducts coming from the bottom of the nose right in front of the spoiler, under the fog lights because its a high pressure area. I will duct it from there along the upper control arm to the spindle.
