Water Pump Bad? '93 LT1
In my old '69 Vette I could tell if the water pump was going bad just by trying to wiggle the fan.
But how can I tell if the water pump on a '93 LT1 is going bad?
I don't want to wait until it pours water all of the Opti.

You should be able to feel or see (perhaps with the aid of one of those little telescoping mirrors) coolant coming from the weep hole on the underside of the pump housing. When mine went, I could see coolant spray on the underside of the hood from it being slung from the serpentine belt.

I have to pull my water pump and opti off to find an oil leak up front.I hope it/s one of the oil seals in the timing chain cover and not the cover itself.Anyway's a member on this form had an Idea of threading a fitting into the weap hole and attaching a hose or some kind of drain line that would devert the water around the opti.
has anyone ever done this???

You need to buy or rent a cooling system pressure tester. You can rent them from autozone or advanced parts stores. This will tell you if you have any leaks much better under pressure. This lets you test the whole system, Rad.,heatercore,if clamps are tight or any other leaks. Good Luck Tim

Just take a good look around. My guess is the waterpump. How many miles on the car?? When the wp went on mine it dumped a good about of coolant at once. Big puddle and all over the underbody from driving.
