heads and cam will add more than 50 i think, with the right combination. AFR heads and a LT4 hotcam will definitely get you there. Better gears might make you feel like you have 50 more hp
I did the LT4 hot cam with 1.6 Roller Rockers. I also added an electric water pump at the same time. All of that gave me an extra 44 hp and was still completely emissions legal.
I installed long tube headers, x-pipe and flowmasters and picked up another 23 hp and 32 pounds of torque.
It's not really hard to add 50 hp to an LT1. I was 270 stock, I make 336 now, with heads I could be pushing near 400.
I got a set of stock heads and intake from Gene @ Karshop for $390 shipped. Another 800 into the heads plus 180 for the cam and you got about 60 horses for under 1500. :yesnod:
Can't get that hp with bolt-ons or exhaust. Have to do serious engine work for those gains. All exhaust+bolt-ons wont give ya close to 50hp on a LT1/LT4.
you could prolly find someone to port out your current heads a little, no point in messing with the cam if youre not messing with the heads
I'll disagree. I'm living proof that you can make pretty good power on stock heads. Now there's plenty of room for improvement mind you. If you're good you can change a set of heads in a day or two. That's what I hope to do, when I get new heads I'll just swap them out and not have to tear into the shortblock at all.
What kind of horse power/torque gain could you get if you put long tubes, 3" piping, high flo cats and a pair of good performance mufflers on, if everything else was stock?
Obviously you'd need head/cam work etc. to reap the full benifit.
Id bet longtube headers and a performace chip would net 50hp.
If you dump the cats and do intake work at the same time. Headers by themselves will give ya like 30hp max usually. A chip isn't going to do a WHOLE lot on a stock setup. Advanced timing is always good though.
Type R stickers are good for horsepower as well :jester
I'm afraid you can't go by the advertised horsepower gains of the bolt ons. Too many have tried it just to be disappointed. I did exhaust AND longtube headers and only picked up 23 hp. I'm fixing to prove that the throttle body didn't give me much of anything, as soon as I can get back to the dyno again.
What are you having a hard time believing vader? As far as the 52mm throttle body that yellow vette on the net with alot of mods claims .2 reduction with bbk 52mm
