It depends on what you can work out with the dyno shop. When I did it the first time it was up here at the ZR-1 gathering. Dynojet had a trailer out there, it cost $75 for three pulls.
The second time I had the car dyno'd it cost me $50 from Clemons Racing in New Albany Indiana. We had a lot of people and we rented the dyno for the day and split the cost.
The third time I had my car dyno'd it was again at Clemons, but we had even more people. It worked out to like $35 a car for three pulls.
Each shop has it's own rules. For example Total Engine Airflow charges $100 an hour and you can do whatever you want. If you can tune the car go for it. They claim they will do partial hours, but I've never really talked to them about it. One of the local club members is in the process of trying to work out a group deal with TEA, we're shooting for $50 or less per car.
The group is really the best way to get a price break.
I dont know what Andy1984 is talkin abought but there are a lot of bolt ons you can do to get more than 50hp out of a lt1..
Exhaust 10-15hp 10hp seems about right for a catback (max)
k@n filter open lid 10-15hp Maybe 5-10
longtubeheaders 20-30hp Headers a bolt-on?
pulleys 10-12hp Pulleys a bolt-on?
roller rockers 10-15hp ROLLER ROCKERS A BOLT-ON?!?!?!?
ported and polished intake manifold 10-15hp This is definately not a bolt-on either, but you would be closer to about 5hp, because the intake is so good in the first place. Plus, you don't polish LT1 heads/intake (ask Ed Wright or CNC Porters why)
52mm throttle body 10-15hp "What are you having a hard time believing vader? As far as the 52mm throttle body that yellow vette on the net with alot of mods claims .2 reduction with bbk 52mm"- your quote. 95% of people on this forum that have a 52mm TB say it doesnt help a stock engine or engine w/ bolt-ons AT ALL
adjustable fuel pressure regulator ? 94 and up vettes dont need one as Fuel Pressure is controlled by the OBDII System
bypass throttle body? 3-5hp
custom chip 10-30 hp Custom Ed Wright Dyno tune = approx. 15hp
That should be more than 50hp for just bolt ons huh?
:D
[B]All of the bolt-ons were 28-40hp according to my (and more accurate) calculations. :) You will learn a ton of stuff from people on this forum of what works or not
Why don't you polish LT1 heads and intake? I know plenty of people who clean up the heads and intake with fantastic results. Any mass produced casting has room for a lot of improvement.
The theory is to not just hog out the ports. Don't increase the size, just smooth it up, and you'll get better flow while maintaining your air velocity. The stock LT1 head is very nice with a little work. Professional "polishing" by a CNC machine will produce a lot of power and not sacrifice driveability.
What are you having a hard time believing vader? As far as the 52mm throttle body that yellow vette on the net with alot of mods claims .2 reduction with bbk 52mm
You got your numbers from a dumb mechanic or a damn magazine, thats whats wrong, none of those numbers are correct. Andy is right on i think.
All the mods i stated are accurate possible gains if some arent "considered" bolt ons my bad. Ive had my vette 4 years and no i didnt get them out of a magazine or dumb mechanic ive seen or proof or claims of all gains.. If plemons can proove a 52mm throttle body doesent do anything sweet but most peaple aint gonna tell if it did aything unless they dyno or track test it which ive seen claims of .2 improvements track tested.. More cfm = more power anywhich way u look at it imo.
Ive seen you dreaming of getting a vette andy congrtas :D ... hows the women?
More CFM in isn't going to give you more power unless the motor needs it. And on a stock to mildly modified motor, a 52mm TB is worth nada.
Arisa on these forum has dyno runs on his 100% stock LT-4, there was no difference between the stock TB and a 52mm TB. Hopefully Nathan see's some improvment, but with his LT-4 hot cam and long tubes..the motor might be wanting more air. I personally don't think it's going to help much without heads.
Springer is right, CFM doesnt equal hp unless it can get into the motor to be used. If you dont open up the heads then theyll still only allow a certain CFM to come in the intake.
