What kind of difference does the performance rear axle option on the '96 A4 have? It was only $50, so I wouldn't imagine it was a big difference. I've just always wondered, thanks. :chevy
Well, the only '96 that I have driven has the 3.07 gear ratio, so the only comparison would be to drive one with 2.59's. Too bad I can't see what it does at the track, Dad won't let me. :cry :cry :cry
What kind of times could a healthy A4 LT1 with the performance axle run? Im dying to find out myself, but can't convince Dad to bring it to the track
Don't know for sure on a 94. But on my 92, I have 2 codes for rear diff. I have G92 (which indicates I have a performance axle) and GU2 which = 2.73. I mention this because all my window sticker says is "Performance axle...$50", My build sheet shows the performance axle code and the ratio code.
I can lie to you if ya want... but you have 2.73's :)
G44 is the 3.07 rear
So Half Fast was wrong??
He's talking about a '92. For 1996 a LT1 automatic with RPO code G92 (performance axle) should also have the code G44 (3.07 gear). Half Fast is rarely wrong.
Ok guys, here it is. The rpo G92 was a marketing code for the performance axle option. Stock autos came with rpo GM1 which is the dana 36 with 2:59 gears. If you had G92 you would also have either rpo GU2 (dana 36 with 2:73 in the verts) or G44 (dana 36 with 3:07 in the coupes). The six speed cars (both verts and coupes) would have GM3 (dana 44 with 3:45).
