Default Anyone Running a Carb - need help

I am in the process of building a 400 for my Vette and I am debating running a carb as the stupid TPI won`t flow enough air for this monster.

406 - 5.7" rods, Motown 220 heads - zz-4 cam - headers and true dual exaust.

Has anyone here have experience running a carb and is so - what is involved in hooking up the transmission.

I really don`t want to run the TPI as I don`t believe it can flow enough air, even if modified (unless someone out there has had different experience)

Thanks,

JMR

I'm guessing you are asking about the TV cable set-up for an automatic?

I have an 86 Monte Carlo SS with a 350 and 700R4. I re-used my stock L-69 intake and carb. The carb linkage bracket works fine with the TV cable for the 700R4.

Well, I dropped a 700R4 in my Chevelle. I needed a special tit that Holley sells for the TV cable and the stock Impala (from the donor car) TV mounting bracket worked w/o problems. -Matt-

I've also wondered what all was involved in converting to a carb. I was wondering what to use for a fuel pump/regulator. Would you use the stock f.p. with a regulator, or switch to a low pressure electric pump?
If someone who has converted to a carb, could you give us a rundown on what all is involved?
Thanks,
Carl

I did the conversion to the carb on my 85, mainly because i couldnt track down the problem with my car running super rich or not at all with the tpi. and i was too cheap to take it to the dealer to get it fixed. you know 70 bucks an hour, etc. you are going to need a carb, manifold, earlier hei withy vac advance, and either a regulator that will put the pressure down (summit--mallory unit), or an electric pump for carbs ie holley red or blue. the only thing is i feel i lost performance especially on the low side. well i got a good tax return so its going into the shop and getting fixed right!! you may want to consider going to an lt1 manifold. if they work for 383's they should work for a 406. check out this site, 400 bucks is cheaper than switching to carb, a lot easier, and should be more powerful than switching to carb. www.lt1intake.com but hey, its your choice........good luck and have lots of fun! i will be starting on my 406 next fall!
