I was degreeing my cam for the 383 I am building for my 86 and I am hoping I just installed the thing a tooth off or something. The cam card says intake valve should open 6 degrees BTDC and it was opening something like 25 ATDC. Didn't check everything else, I was frustrated and it had been a long day. Figured I would start from scratch today. How much would the cam be off if it was a tooth off? I really hope thats what it is. What are the chances of it being the wrong cam or a bad grind?
Thanks,
David
Edit: cam is a 230/236 on a 113. Not sure if it is ground with a +4 advance in it or not. I installed it straight up though. The cam card says specs are for a 109 intake centerline, that being said, not sure if it was or not.

Find the CL of the intake lobe lift and see where it is installed. It should be at 109 ATDC. If it is not recheck how you have the cam lined up, maybe you made a simple mistake.
Made sure the dots were lined up, and they were. Started from scratch today and every spec out to within a degree. No clue were I messed up last night but its good now.
