Has anyone used these with the Eldebrock LT4 Intake on a stock LT1 short block? I am trying to come up with an economical engine that will make 400hp at the wheels.
Thanks,
Sam
Ported stock LT1's with a mildly large cam will get you there.
A cam with 225-230 in/ex with 550-575 lift. Use a GM Impala SS head gasket and long tube headers.
Loyd Elliot, http://www.elliottsportworks.com/lt1.html, will get you avery good set of heads. His cams are generally hard core, but his heads and manifold work are great.
The Edlebrock LT4 manifold isnt needed, as opposed to getting your heads done and manifold.
No HP gain with the Edlebrock intake, proven in many magazines already.

Define economical.
What are you willing to live with from a street manners perspective?
Recent corvette fever tested a whole slew of LT1 heads on a 383 in a dyno comparison. The smaller afr i believe 195 cc came out on top with the trick flow heads in 2nd etc... porting your stock heads and a nice cam assuming you have long tube headers and you will easily crack 400 at the wheels.
thanks for all of the replies. I am going with Eldebrock LT4 heads and intake with a comp cam and 1.6 roller rockers. This is the lesser of the LT1 head shoot out on the GM High Tech performance web site. This combo made 472 Hp and 452 ft/lbs. I am looking for a very streetable combo. The shootout was on a 383 with 11.1/1 compfression ratio. What do think this combo on a stock bottom end would produce?

The only way you're going to crack 400 at the wheels on a stock short block is with a huge x large cam, serious port work on the stock heads, and driveability that will in no way shape or form feel like stock. You better be prepared for cam surge, a choppy idle, and lousy gas mileage, just to name a few.
I was wondering about that. There is nothing economical when it comes on buying new parts, labor, SNAFUS, etc etc etc
More horses also require more fuel and that requires more money
Buddy of mine pulled off his own LT1 heads off his 94. Ground em out with a tool and bolted them back on. easiest 3 mph he ever got. Even filled his coolant up with water . Cost him virtually his own time.
