Default Braided fuel line install

I've gotten a few pm's asking for a write up on the braided stainless fuel line install I just did so here goes. First of all there are some discrepancies apparently between a/c brackets and the clearance for the fuel line. I will note these as I go along.
First thing is to get to the fuel lines coming out of the tank and clamp them off,

[IMG][/IMG]
Get some GOOD clamps, these plastic ones don't quite stop the flow but it was minimal.
This shows the factory lines and how close they are to my headers, I have them and the wiring wrapped in header wrap to keep the heat away,

[IMG][/IMG]

This shot shows the hose installed, I used the original mounting point to secure the new hose.
[IMG][/IMG]
I have the header out for another project so it made it a bit easier to do but not necessary. This is the only place I drilled a new hole to mount the hose, all others were stock locations.
[IMG][/IMG]
The hoses are now able to go back down on the side of the frame to another stock mounting point.
[IMG][/IMG]
This is the last mounting point, it is the small stud that is on the mechanical fuel pump opening cover.
[IMG][/IMG]
Now this is where you will have to do some checking on your own car, I couldn't use 90* ends to go down through the original fuel line location because they turned back toward the engine and were hitting the bracket, 45* ends were not curved enough and they were hitting the front of the bracket. I've been told by 383vett that he was able to use 45's. I am now waiting for 60* ends that will put the hose almost dead center down through the bracket. To get by I installed the 90's facing up and ran the fuel line up over the a/c compressor. This will be changed as soon as I get the 60* ends.
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]
Lastly, here is a couple shots showing clearance with the header back in.
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]
The last shot appears to show the header close to the fuel line but it is just the angle I took the shot, there is planty of clearance in all areas now.
Here is the parts list that I used on my car, note the differences between the early C4's and the '88 and newer ones concerning the adapter sizes. Don't order any paets until you make sure which ones you will need, especially the angled fittings.
You will need:
2......EAR-991955ERL 16mm x 1.5 adapters
2......EAR-991954ERL 14mm x 1.5 adapters
(or 4 of the 16mm if you car is an '88 or newer.)

2......SUM-220690 straight hose end
2......EAR-806106 60* hose end (I would do a little homework here, 383 vett says he used 45's with no problems. I'm sure you can rule out the 90's unless you wanted to route them over the top like I first did. There has to be a difference someplace because I can't use the 45's and he can.

(The straight ends are fixed, the angled ends swivel)

10 ft. -6 stainless hose, I didn't look up the number on this.

1......SUM-G1882 Bag of 1 dozen .500 diameter hole insulated clamps.

The ten foot of hose is more than you will need but I ordered that much just in case I had to re-do and end or ??

Nice write up. You might want to keep in mind that NHRA does not allow braided fuel line as it passes by the bellhousing area (clutch explosion fears). It needs to be a hard line. Also, a lot of people (myself included), think that because braided fuel line looks and feels tough, it will last forever. In fact, it needs to be replaced every 5 years or so. I had a fuel line leak and was waved off right at the starting line. I thought it was one of my fittings, but was actually the fuel line leaking right in the middle of the hose.

I wont trust them again, I have them on my C4 and will be swapping them for hard line when I move the fuel pump next month.
What I was told to watch for is flexing, the braided line will wear down and sharp points will puncture the line. If you do install it make sure it is properly supported and doesn't bounce around because from the outside you cant tell if the line is good or not.

I have been thinking about doing this on my road race car. Now that I am hearing about the adverse effects of the stainless line Im second guessing it. It looks good though! Nice writeup!
