Default Ditch the air pump?

Are there any problums with removing the air pump on my 84? Shure would like to get rid of a little high nose weight
TIA
Dave

Sorry I should have included model info; this is a 84 w/L83. I will head into town to find a 85" belt.

No problems, there is even an air pump delete kit offered by a few of the vendors

Default I see your edit

Just wanna make sure you know that the air pump delete kit is not valid for the 84. Just remove the pump and use the 85" belt.

Yep Thanks! I wanted to make sure there was not an other system, except the exhaust air, that a pump delete would adversely affect. My goal right now is to keep the L83 running as crisply as possible with maintenance and simple low buck mods till I am sure the chassis is well sorted. Then a stout engine/trans upgrade.

You may have problems if your state has emission testing.
The guy I sold my 1984 vette to removed air pump & said he noticed a seat-of-the pants improvement in acceleration. And saving weight is always nice-those air pumps are suprisingly heavy. You won't have to worry about a check engine light by removing air pump but you may have to leave some things connected or plugged/crimped from what I remember.
"They" do sell pump delete kits(eklers, mid america, corvette central etc.)

As previously note the "kits" neither fit the '84 accessory drive, nor are they needed.

A seat of the pants improvement would be the only improvement possible. Unless it is failing, those pumps draw incredibly little power. Many S.O.T.P. improvements are all in the head. Removal of the pump definitely cleans up the engine compartment and makes things more accessible, however.

RACE ON!!!

Thanks Guys! I realize that there will be very little HP gain but there is a little nose weight loss and reduced clutter. For the cost of RnR 1 wore out s belt. Will not cause any other systems to spaz out... fling, crash, sound of air pump landing out behind the shop btw an 84 doesnt have to pass smog tests in WA as it is over 25 yr old. A major reason I chose that car.

CFI-EFI, you seem to really know your way around the Cross Fire set up. Maby we can chat some time.

Thanks again,
Dave
