who invited the douche canoes into this thread.. where is a mod when you need one.. i bet if you added an afr head debate into this the thread would be locked in a heartbeat.
Where can I find the long cutting bits. I will search, but if someone has a source I'd gladly accept the assistance.
I got some bad news today, I was going to take the ol' '84 and put her on a dyno before I did my winter mods but when I called the shop they informed me that they sold their dyno! oh man I'm bummed, I really wanted to have some empirical data on what kind of performance increase I'll see. I'm not giving up I guess I'll have to take a road trip to find a shop, oh well gotta do it because I know my SOTP dyno has never been calibrated
Again, thanks for the help, very much appreciated!
This is great you will be one of the only guys to do a before and after dyno with a ported cfi intake manifold. So you are obviously porting an extra manifold while your stock unit is still on the car. It is great that you are doing this step by step and documenting it for all of us crossfire junkies. I have to find a dyno so I can run the stock intake first and then put the renegade on and see what happens. I bought a set of tb's off ebay the 2" ones and they have been modded to be adjustable. With the stock fuel pump how much of a fuel pressure increase can I get out of the stock fuel pump?
I had a z28 with a carb and it would haul @$$ compared to the crossfire
Do you know what the differences were between the two? IOW, do you know WHY the Carb'ed Z28 would "haul ***"? Of course, Sheman, you never DID take it to the track dyno it or measure the power of either car (or any car you've owned) so you really don't know WTF you're talking about, do you? What did you just say about "B.S."?
No doubt. I feel bad for the OP. He STARTED a great thread. Good pics, good tech. Here come the cheer leaders though.
Keep your personal feelings out of the OP's thread and save it for the track, I'm gunning for you at the track, when you line up next to a C4 don't look over it will be me. I don't want to intimadate you to much just concentrate on the tree, you will see my tail lights soon enough. Coming to a track near you.

oh snap.. i would be biting my nails in fear.. meet up with me next season.. please.. i have a stock ported intake on my car..
to the OP i put a set of edelbrock's Estreet heads with 2.02 intake 1.95 exhaust valves and 220cc intake runners and it was a great mod for the buck around $980 or so for the set

your sig says you have a carb on your 84 so i am going to assume that you have no results with the crossfire and those heads.. and btw you say the exhaust valve is a 1.95 in your post and a 1.84 in your profile.. neither of which a small block exhaust valve.

Thanks for the Idea, but I just picked up a pair of '113's and guess what? I'm gonna port the bejesus out of them too...I think I'm gonna go into the stripper glitter business
I cannot believe all the immature douche bags on here ******* this guy's hard work. Probably just jealous because they are lacking the skills to do it themselves. I hate it when people knock on the noncookie cutter builds. Anyone can buy parts and put them on. Nothing to it. I think it would be fun to have a 84 to play with. OP, don't let these... opinionated... d bags keep you from posting more and sharing the results, i am enjoying seeing/reading your doings and all the other great info everyone has posted.

Wow, you know how to port heads? Is there a special technique to porting them? What did you pay for the heads? Don't go to far you might go right through

I can't wait to see his before and after dyno runs. This is better than a slanted magazine article. I like seeing the porting work in stages.
To the OP, do you plan on shortening the runners or leave them the stock length. Has anybody that has ported their cfi intake did you shorten your runners and if you did shorten them did you lose any low end? What else should the OP do to gain more?

I've never ported heads before and I got these babys for a cool $213 on ebay. I have read and will continue to research the process. I have to have something to do during the long Wisconsin winter. Heck I went through the trouble of insulating and heating the shop, might as well get some quality use out of it.
I'm thinking I will stay with the stock runner length on the intake, and I'm really debating whether or not to put the heads on before doing the intake mod dyno. I really want to see what the port job will do in and of itself. We'll have to see how far I have to go to get on a dyno and if I want to make multiple trips there.
Thanks for the support, think I'll go grind a bit...

Don't go to the extra work of installing the intake on the old heads, switch the heads and intake at the same time so we can see what you end up with. Another guy posted about new exhaust, but I remember a post a while back about the stock shorty hearders that they had poor welds and you can do some porting by grinding away the extra metal from the sloppy welds and pick up some free hp. If you don't want to shell out the money on new headers right now. What tool are you using to port your intake, I might starting porting just incase the renegade doesn't show up, the renegade is starting to look like the BBK tpi that isn't for sale yet.
Don't forget to take your camera while porting. If you want to save on heating your garage you can do some porting on the kitchen table.

Keep grinding OP
The very first time I ever saw a picture of the inside of the crossram manifold I wondered anyone ever experimented with shortening the runners. Not sure how long they are stock (As I don't have one), but that seems like a place one might look to if they wanted to go with agressive heads/cam work.
