Thank you all so much for your input and help! It looks like I'm gonna buy Y-Me's 3:07 diff for 350$
Do you think i'll be able to figure out how to do it just pulling things off and putting equivalent things back on? Does anyone know of a good guide online? Maybe a nice picture book... :p My car knowledge is mildly limited. I would buy the DVD but the internet is such a powerful resource ya know?
Also how hard do you think it'll be if I jacked it up and put it on ramps? Do i absolutely need to use a lift? I hope not
Yes, that little time loop is fast but if you look it pretty much chronicles what you need to do....
yes......it is that simple. We even discovered that removing the rear wheels is a waste of time.
The hardest part is dropping that exhaust. unbolt it at the header and leave the headers (exhaust manifold) leave them alone....just get the three (per side) nuts off and the smog tube and then allow the whole exhaust to drop out. Take a round file and file the holes in the flanges into an oval for when you put the exhaust back in.
The only thing I would add is that trying to use the transmission jack to lower the D36 was a waste of energy. it is not that heavy to begin with and using a jack is cumbersome. Understand on the Tranny it is vital to the success. But the D36.....
First unbolt one side of the batwing and then just let that side all the way down.....then slide over to the other side and unbolt it and let THAT side down.
Going back in is just as easy......lift one side of the bat wing and install the pin bolt....then go to the other side and repeat......very very simple.

Turned out it was only a wheel bearing, he brought it over I found his diff to be good, installed a new bearing, sold him some near new stainless steel billy boat exhaust, installed it, put new bushings in his headlights, replaced one inop horn, new rear brake pads, washed and waxed it and he was once again rollling for 1,000.00 for all of it.
I would like to take this opportunity to say that Y-Me is a corvette god.
That was such a killer deal. The exhaust he put on is making me seriously consider renaming her from Veronica to Doombringer. He did all this in 3 days. This car is my daily driver, and I'm back to zipping around DC again. I owe you big time brother!
He also washed, waxed, rain-xed, and treated the leather. I will admit... she had fallen into a less than reputable appearance. That will not happen again. You've shown me the light Y-Me! Thanks bro!!!!

Actually I did nothing with the leather other than switching the worn drivers side with the better passenger side cushions.
An $8,500 quote for a diff replacement that turned out to be a wheel bearing? I'd be urged to go back to that dealer just to show them and get their reaction.
Wow, I priced out the parts from GM and that was under $1,000. So they were going to charge you $7,500 for labor.
For what turned out to be a wheel bearing instead, which would not have fixed the noise, unless they up sold it later driving the price even higher. They sell those for well over $300 a piece, which are the same units sold at parts stores just in a different box. They tried to push a $1,500 partial front end rebuild when I went in for a basic alignment one time, which included two wheel bearings that I later checked and found to be in good condition and did not need replacement. This was 6 plus years ago. I'm still riding on the same wheel bearings they said I needed to replace for $300 plus each.
The only time I even step foot is when I need to order a part I can't buy anywhere else. If this was me, I would really be urged to go back there and show them how either their incompetence or fraudulent practices would have cost me $8,500 of an unnecessary expense.
