Are you hitting the fuel cut rev-limit prior to or during the shift? This could be the unloading that you feel, or you could simply be overreving the optimum shift point in 1st.
If your getting a big torque increase at the wheels just after the shift, then you're likely shifting too late.
Maybe take some timing out at the bottom of 2nd (approx. 3500-4000 rpm).

I'm doing 1.72 60's with my D36 and haven't broken it yet. I think you have a little wiggle room left before it's in serious danger. But anything can happen at any time.
It is odd that it spins at the 1-2 shift. Most hard hitting automatics will chirp the tires on the 1-2 but not spin. With most cars, the problem with traction is right at the start. Sounds like you need some better tires. BFG or MT Streets.

Not hitting the fuel cut off. Trans may be shifting late. It shifts, not me. That may well be the problem. I may take out some base timing. That will kill some power all the way down the track, but its bracket racing. Don't have to be fast. If It doesn't kill my RTs I can live with it. I hope this thread is not a total waste, its looking like rain Saturday.
