89 Corvette (obviously) with a volt reading of only 11.5. I replaced the alt, got 14.4 back for about 2 days, then back to 11.5. I replaced the battery and still getting 11.5, but it will go to 10 then 9 then it will become a Ford (flatlined that is) Could it be a short or a bad ground somewhere? If so, where? What about the starter? Starts great but I have heard that bad starters will kill a battery. Let me know. Thanks.
I have heard that it's possible for a bad battery to kill an alternator and vice versa. Maybe you had a bad battery that killed your alternator, then killed your new alternator. Now that you have a good battery you might try another alternator. You can have your alternator and battery tested at any decent auto parts store. Also if your alternator is only 2 days old they can't hardly not replace it, it has to have some kind of warranty.
Go by a pepboys or something like it and have them test both your battery and alternator at once. You may find that the battery cannot hold a full charge anymore, so a new alternator will be stressing itself out trying to charge it to no avail.
I HAVE FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!!!!! The alternator, although "100% BRAND NEW" had a loose connection on it where the wire lead connects from the starter. Not the connection I made but where it was installed by the builder. If it continues to give me a problem, I will just replace the alternator. Thanks for all your suggestions. Until the next dilemma...... Happy Motoring!!
