Default Need website that shows relay/switch terminals

I have a double pole/double throw toggle switch. I need to find a site that has a diagram that shows what each terminal is for. Thanks.

Sorry I don't know of any site for that. I'll try to explain it tho. Looking at the back of the switch you should hold it so the three terminals are vertical. So you should have two rows of three. The two center posts are your commons. When the switch is in the middle position these center posts connect to nothing, and they never connect to each other. Throw the switch to the up position and those center posts will be connected to either the bottom or top posts on each side. I can't remember which. I think when you throw the switch up it connects the centers to their lower posts. Center the switch and nothing goes through. Throw the switch to the down position and it connects the center posts to the upper posts. An easy way to check this is to get a volt/ohm meter at Radio Shack. Set it to show you ohms and probe the terminals. It you connect the test leads from the meter to two posts and the meter shows nothing, those posts arn't connected electrically inside the switch. Throw the switch and see what connects. Sorry for such a long narrative but hope this helps.

Ok, I think I've figured out the switch thing. I still need to know that the terminals 30, 85, 86, and 87 are for. I know they are ground, +12v from battery, switch lead, and output to switched component, but which is which???

well, after some playing around and a lot of smelling for smoke, I figured everything out. When I flip the switch to the up position, the primary fan comes on. When I flip the switch to the down position, the primary and auxiliary fan both come on. Let's just hope the aux fan doesn't draw more than 20 amps, or the switch will be toast.

If anybody wants a wiring diagram for this, let me know. I'm sure I can come up with something.

What Bobzz4 said is correct. You will need a VOM meter to determine if throwing the switch to the up position makes contact with the lower terminals (most of the time this is how they work) or the upper terminals.

For your SPST relay and any other switch you can think of it this way:
Single pole, one common lead
Double pole, two common leads
and so on, I think once you get past 3 poles they start calling it a gang switch, but I degress.

Single throw means that the switch has two positions on & off
double throw has three positions.

For a relay there is a set of terminals to power the relay and the switch contacts of the relay. Look for + and - signs for the "turn relay on" power.

Its been a long time, thanks for reminding me I still remember this 20+ year old crap rattling around in the brain.
