A friend of mine was going to order that ram air kit that feeds through the location of the front license plate. I think I remembered somebody saying that was a waste of time and money. Is that accurate?
I'm looking into getting a ram air and I was told that they are all the same. They also said that the one you are talking about is the hardest to install.
I dont think forced air would be a waste at all. In fact im sure it would be a decent gain on a modified car. I just dont care for the appearence. I know they have a special tool for the install and it requires some cutting  and then i guess you need to paint it too. I dont know of any other true ram air set ups except some bottom feeders. I wonder if a hood exsists.
I think a forum member did a test while he had his ZR1 on the dyno. He did a pull, then on the next pull he put a leaf blower in front of the ram air and got ~7hp gain. I migh thave read this elsewhere, but I believe it was here.
EDIT ** That would be 7hp at the wheels, so probably a 9-10hp gain at the crank.**
I have one installed on my car, can't say i picked up a TON of power from it, but highway gas mileage increased on an average of about 2 MPG so about 10% and it sounds WAY COOL almost like a hoover sitting there when you stand in front of the car :jester
I'll post some pics when I find them, also check the sig :D
**looks like the website is down, pics should be up later**
Being a daily driver in colorado I have driven through a pretty good down pour, and a near white out condition, neither one has had a negative effect on the engine, there is drain holes in the pipe running to the air box, as some have said you would have to drive through standing water deep enough to cover the front bumper to really suck up enough water to do any damage to anything
everyone I know that has one where a front plate is required can usually play it off by acting dumb and asking where you should put it :jester
I guess most cops look and assume it came like that
The problem I have with the "ram air" units is that the installation requires cutting the frame. Whether it affects the structural integrity of the car or not, I refuse to cut away parts of the frame for 10hp.
Also, rain IS a concern. A heavy downpour is definately dangerous when traveling at speeds of 70 plus MPH. Drain holes have little effect under 70mph wind. A few drops of water can destroy an engine. Lingenfelter now carries and installs them, but he dosen't recommend them for daily driving.
I say, find horsepower elsewhere until you run out of places. Get the ram air if your in absolute desperation to squeeze every bit of hp out of your engine!

In order for ANY water to even get close to making it into the engine you would have to be in standing water, any water that makes it to the filter after traveling the length of the tube feeding the engine would be soaked up by the filter. Second how can a drop of water destroy your engine, there are quite a few superchargers that use a water injection system to keep the engine under full boost once it gets near detonation. Also any water that may make it past the filter would be nothing more than a mist by the time it traveled the length of the air intake, plenum, and runners, doing nothing more than making the air a little more humid which would probably give you a little more power. Unless you are running a MAF where the moisture may short something I see no reason to be concerned about driving my car daily
