I have a 91 and I am having the transmission rebuilt later this week or early next week. It is a mild TPI with some bolt ons, nothing major(about 300 hp-400 ft/lbs) with a 700R4. I'm having a shift kit put in (transgo maybe?)The shops I've talked to are giving me the option of a stock 1600 stall or a 2000 stall. A few "experts", and I use that term loosely-have recommended the 2000 for better off the line performance. The shop that is doing the rebuild said to stick with the 1600 because the higher stall(2000) would make it sluggish off the line. I thought I knew what to do but now I am clueless?? Does anyone have any advice?!

If they stall the converter "properly" 2000 rpm stall will feel near stock. If the builder simply puts a ton of end play in it to achieve the stall, it will be a slushy mess.
Precision Industries makes a good TC. Best thing of all is you can get their tech advice to set the stall for you. What's that? You installed it and don't like the stall speed? NP. Take it out and send it back. They will restall it for you for free once.

Put a stock 1986 vette convertor in, its is rated at 2040 stall from the factory. It will not be sluggish off the line.
