What causes SMC to delaminate? Was it just not made correctly from the factory or some outside source causing it to separate? I just bought a roof panel that shows some signs of separation at the front edge. I was wondering if water might be getting between the layers. Its from Florida so I dont think it is water freezing and expanding the layers but I dont know where it was before FL.
How do you go about fixing this problem? It isnt bad but I am going to prep it for new paint and dont want it to continue after I get done.
Itr looks as if the gel coat along with the paint is delaminating from the fiber mat underneath. I can actually see the hairs from the mat in some places. Its pretty minor but I want to repair it properly to prevent it from happening after I repaint.

I know this has been a while but how did you fix this? I ask because I have the same issue on my drivers side rear quarter panel and I hope there is a better way to fix it other than replacing the panel.
