I just purchased a 1986 with 85,000 miles, auto, L98. It studders when pushed a little bit right after the shift points. I get a vibration in differant degrees that can shake the car noticably. It doe's not do it during heavy acceleration. The car starts, idles and runs fine otherwise. Any advice? Thanks, Tom.
Welcome to the Forum and the Madness. To help us help you hows about some additional info? Like: State of maintenance? Plugs, wires, cap rotor, to start with. Injectors, new, old? Are you setting a code, MOST IMPORTANT. That is does the SES light come on and stay on, when? Have you invested in even a simple manual (Haynes? Someone will be along in a second to say FSM) Get back to us and we'll go from there.

My guess is your torque converter lock-up clutch is failing. The shudder is the clutch slipping and chattering. Under WOT the clutch is not engaged.
No, the SES light does not come on. The only code I have gotten is 12. I have no idea the condition of the injectors. I get 16.9 ohms from them though. The plug wires aren't "leaking". I do have the Haynes manual. I will change the rotor, cap and plugs this weekend.
I think your right Brian. What is involved in repairing it? Thanks, Tom.
You will have to pull the transmission out and have the converter fixed at a minimium. I am not a transmission expert, maybe your local transmission shop can determine if the converter is the problem or something in the transmission is causing the problem, like the lock-up solenoid.
