89 convertible starts when cold idles fine but will start to miss when you speed up and when you cut off will not restart untill cool. I have changed ignition module and coil and plugs and wires what could be the problem thanks
Check the car for stored trouble codes first and go from there. If no codes I'd look to the fuel system first. Fuel injectors - the stock (non ethenol compliant) Multechs that cam in the '89 have had high failure rates as of the last couple years. Do a resistance check across the injector coils both cold and hot and see what's up....they should be ~17 ohms across each coil.
I would check the ignition coil in the distributor. It sounds like it is old and possibly shorting out. Check the connections at the back of the block where the grounds are located.
I had same problem with my 89. Would run fine on cold start, (this is open loop mode), then when temp. got to about 140 degrees, (going into closed loop), it would start missing. FUEL INJECTORS.
As stated earlier, talk to Jon at fuelinjectorconnection.com
Absolutley! This is the exact problem we just had with my 89 coupe. We thought it was ignition too. Than we learned of teh injectors. With a Digital multimeter set to ohms you can easily identify the culprit(s) In my case it was 1 really bad one (Only 8 ohms) and two not so good ones. Take my advise though, buy a quality injector. We got some cheapo's from Pep Boys and it doesnt strat as well as it used too. We'll be changing them again Im sure.
