I have just got a new lap top after being without one for 4 years. It's good to be back. Back in 2003 I sent a thread about making one of these screens out of hardware cloth or AKA chicken wire. I did this on my 86 in 2002 and it works great. It cost around $10.00. The wire cuts easy and forms easy to the openning and I used existing bolts.
I made my own, and installed them on both of my C4s. I used the gutter screen material from Home Depot, too. It has worked extremely well for me to keep debris out of the condenser and radiator. I wouldn't own a C4 without adding one of these.
Here are a few photos of the first-article prototype I fabbed and installed on my '94. I've since replaced it with a second try that worked out even better, and I also painted that one flat black. It's nearly invisible.
Live well,
SJW
Nice
