Default 1994 lifter replacement

Hi everyone

I have a 1994 conv Corvette with about 165K miles.

I have a tapping (ticking) noise comming from the drivers side of my engine seems to be in the area of the last 2 spark plugs.

Can anyone give me step by step instructions on how to replace lifters.

Please feel free and include all advise on this one Im a little hesitant never performed this before.

Thanks

Are you entirely sure it's the lifters and not just the injectors you're hearing? I'd use a tube or stethoscope to be sure before ripping into the top end.

On another note: I bought a dd some years back that had a loud ticking (definately lifters) in one of the cylinders. Turned out it was low on oil and was resolved by running CD-2 through the engine several times. NOT that I'm recommending CD-2 for your car!

No one will want to type out a "how to" on lifter replacement. The step by step list is already documented in a service manual. Although I would recommend you purchase a helm's manual, they are expensive. A $12 chilton book at the Pep Boys will tell you what you need to know.
Otherwise, use the search feature to find similar threads. With any luck, there will be pics attached to them.

Using the scope, place it on each injector and rev the engine to 3K or so. Then place the scope on each of the center bolts of the valve cover, reving to 3K or so. Then on the exhaust manifolds, again to 3k or so. You will be trying find the cylinder making the noise. My bad lifter was #5 exhaust. The one thing to look for when you have the lifters out is damage to the cam shaft, as this is why I now have the Hotcam. That stuck lifter had started to wipe out that lobe.

The actual replacement of the lifters is not complicated just teadeous. You will need new intake gaskets, RTV sealant. Make sure you have a system for remember what goes where on the intake and be prepared to replace little plastic vaccum pieces and what not.

It's basically just take **** apart from the top until you get to the lifters, but if you need handholding, use the relevant parts of the cam r/r instructions here:
