Need help, valve cover removal and valve alignment
As far as the adjusting the valves, you do it the same way as stock rockers you just lock them down differently. Turn the adjusting nut until there's no more play, go half a turn more and lock it down. Do a search to find the order of adjusting.
As far as resetting the lifter preload, you must first make sure the lifter you're working on is on the base circle of the camshaft lobe. You can't just being tightening the adjusting nuts or the engine will never run right, if it'll run at all.
If have a rather long step by step procedure that'll walk you through it. If you want it, let me know. For those who've been setting lifter preload for years it seems simple, but for a first timer it can be as confusing as he**. I tried simplifying the procedure by stating not only what to do, but why.
Believe me, if you don't follow the directions EXACTLY (let me repeat that: EXACTLY) before long you'll be pulling your hair out. Don't feel badly though, it happens all the time on this and the other eight Forums I visit.

It's in the 6 o'clock position relative to the compressor and to install the torx head bit you need to align a hole at that 6 o'clock position. Then you'll be able to insert the torx bit. The bit must be installed straight, not on an angle and pushed in tightly as you try loosening the bolt. It's tricky.
The bolt will probably be tight, so be sure the torx bit is fully inserted in the head of the bolt. If steady loosening pressure doesn't break the torque holidng the bolt try using a quick, sudden turn on the ratchet to break the torque holding the bolt.
Really try not to strip the head of the bolt because, from what I've read, a replacement is really hard to find.
Another tip: Now's the perfect time to use a high speed grinder to grind away the areas the interfere with the removal of the valve cover. It's well worth the effort and the first time you have to pull that cover again you'll be glad you did.
Chances are that cover is going to have to be removed again, especially since you've never set lifter preload before.
Years ago I removed all the interferring areas and that made pulling the covers a less than 10 minute job.
Also, while the covers are off, tell us what other mods you made in preparation to installing the roller rockers. Things like: what ratio rockers, what springs are installed; are the rockers self-aligning or NON self-aligning, did you change pushrods, etc? Just trying to save you a LOT of aggravation.
Hope this helps.
