Default Omnivecs Ls1 Build thread

Ok here we go

Lets start by saying my intent with this thread. I work on cars for a living. Its pretty much all I do beside veg out in front of computer at night. I get distracted pretty easily, as in I have like 7 projects going on right now (two of them run).

I'm trying to start a auto fabrication business with my dad but I can't seem to keep my motivation going. So I am going to start a build thread and see if this can keep me going and maybe spike some interest and since there's not alot of activity this time of season for build threads I can make people jealous of my awesome palm springs weather. With a budget of close to nothing, until I sell something. Watch and be amazed.

Anyways

The plan is to put this LS1

In here (Ignore my awesome wood floor..)

But keep it hooked to the stock 4+3 MAHAHAHAHA....

Other back burner projects
64 comet (The Hybrid) Working ABS, AC, IRS Rear, Power variable assist rack and pinion steering, and gets 28+mpg
Ignore my parents

84 fiero, Supercharged 3800 Bolted to stock 4 speed.

Looks like you already have some experience fitting square pegs in round holes! Looking forward to seeing how you get it all together and good luck.

The Comet looks near done. Cool car. Fiero looks close. Let me have it and I'll finish it. Good luck with all those projects.

Update time.
Sorry for the delay I found a really good deal on a shop in colton and I have been trying to rise money for the high deposit. One of those ways was taking my t56 and LS1 to the long beach auto swap meet to sell, and I said to my dad that this is the one and only time I was going to try to sell this ls1 or its going in the vette. It didnt sell so here I am again. But did meet a lot of people who are looking for someone to do ls style swaps so that might be a something I can make a profit on. In the mean time I need a car to show off my skills I guess. So on with the molestation of the vette.

Now this next pic shows the rotor from the old engine and keep in mind this engine ran really well. P.O. didn't bother screwing it on.

Heres the engine finally out with trans. I didn't think I would need to take the bumper off but all well makes it easier to work on and I know I could have gotten it from the side, but not with the trans as well.

Here is one of the reasons the P.O. stopped driving it, no 1st/2nd gear

and here I had grinded slots in the sides of the cam housing so I could get a better weld. I'm thinking the cam is cast steel but the rod is forged but I still say its way stronger then the press fit. The pic didn't come out very clear. The only info i could find was its a common problem and to just replace it. Which seemed like a waste of time. I did find some dead links to some supposed stronger aftermarket ones but to no luck. I'm going to weld the 3/4 shaft as well.

Now i am just waiting on the seal kit to put that back together. Thanks for looking.

Well I guess I need a update. I finally got my seals for the shifter shafts. Which took me a while to find, I had ordered a seal kit from autozone but it turned out to be first gen st-10 kit so it had o ring instead of seals. They had the seals separate but wanted 12 bucks a each. I ended cross referacneing the auto zone number at napa and came up with a steering shaft seal for 4 bucks each so thats done.
I also received a mount kit off ebay for 30 bucks which look great haven't had chance to try them yet.

Now the problem im having is the flyhwheel/clutch. I ordered a flywheel form kargen for a 2002 2500 5.3L chev truck. Since the bigger truck still use the older drive train parts. I didn't realize that ls flywheels are 14"ers. Making the 4+3 bell housing useless.

I ended up going to junkyard and picking up a older truck bell housing and bearing retainer, in the hopes that the retainer would fit on the st-10. Since trucks have inner holes of 5 1/8" instead of the cars 4 5/8". NOPE. So now I guess i need to get a older 3speed truck retainer or buy a adapter ring or find a car 12" clutch bell housing. Anybody have one laying around?

Then I have to deal with the clutch slave cylinder but I well deal with that later.

A $500 bell housing is not a option. The motor is going to stay stock with this trans. So a 325hp engine does not need a sfi approved bellhousing. But thanks for the info.
