Default Odd Acceleration Problem / High Idle

I recently removed my right exhaust manifold (thanks to a great Uncle) to replace the gaskets with a one-piece copper one. Since then my car has acted strangely (forgive me but I do not know all the technical jargon so bear with me):

When I accelerate slowly it kinda stutters, almost like its having "hiccups?"...I don't have quite the same power as before. The idle would normally be around the 6-7 range and now it goes up to 8-9 on Park and Drive and once went up to 12 when I put it in Neutral (although the idle seems to have settled down lately). In Drive when it idles it idles rough. If I "hit it" the acceleration is fine most of the time, and sometimes it isn't. I can smell gas sometimes. No warning or service lights come up.

I have a Power Effects exhaust and noticed if the discs are closed I can hear a "ticking" noise coming from them. That wasn't there before (or before the manifold removal)

Removing the exhaust manifold was a pain in the *** and also required removing the spark plugs to get it out. I am 99% certain that these plugs were re-installed correctly and the firing sequence is in order. (just giving all the details)

What could this be?

I think you mean right 'exhaust' manifold.

Just a educated guess.

The ticking noise may very well be a exhaust leak. It has been my experience that any exhaust leak before the O2 sensors will actually cause them to read way off. Bad O2 readings in closed loop mode will for sure cause problems in the way the car drives / accelerates.

Are the issues there when you first start the car cold and drive it? (Open loop mode)

Yes. Cold or warm there doesn't seem to be a difference.
