Yet another digi dash problem (88)
Finally got all the mechanical stuff almost done on my '88 rebuild, now its time to figure out this digi dash issue. I have scoured the net, and the forums, haven't quite seen an issue like this.. here goes.. I inherited this '88 off my dad during the summer, it needs a lot of TLC, but i've got the mechanical know how, and a decent size garage. i had driven the car many times before, and the digi dash worked, but after he attempted to boost a completely dead battery one day, he says the dash died.. So.. simple troubleshooting, I check the fuses, and the 5 amp is dead, grab another one, replace, and snap.. instant arc, fuse burns out.. So. i unplug the digi dash, replace the 5a LCD fuse, and nothing.. doesn't burn.. I dissassemble the dash, install only the board with the 32 pin, and same thing.. 5a LCD blows.. instantly. Nothing works at all, tach, odometer, etc.
Now.. I could just go out and get a rebuilt, and send in the core, or could this be something else.. would a fried power supply in the digi dash board cause an issue like this? Or am I grounding out somewhere? I checked the fuse block with a multimeter, and it seemed fine.
I don't want to send it off, and it isn't the problem. I am more than comfortable with soldering... where should i start?
Hopefully someone can help

Tony
